Action 666 concludes the Red Glass story arc, by James Hudnall, Ed Hannigan and Will Blyberg. What began as a weird, mysterious tale has become blatantly a hallucination by the time this story begins, with Superman killing the Martian Manhunter.
Captain Atom and Firestorm are the next two to face Superman, and both fall to him.
One of the reasons I included this story was its use of Grant Morrison’s Doom Patrol line-up. Cliff Steele and Rebis are there, but it’s Crazy Jane who steals the show as she fights Superman. He wipes out the entire team, and is then executed by Wonder Woman.
Only then does he succeed in communicating with a red crystalline structure buried in the moon and recently uncovered. It’s a sentient, living being, and the hallucinations were a failed form of communication. Superman frees the structure, and it heads on its way.
